Winner of the 2020 Children & Youth Environmental Award chosen
"Climate protection now. With us." Under this motto, the children and young people of Jena were called upon to address the topic of climate protection.
The jury was won over by the application of the "Tigeraugen-Stammgruppe" (Tiger Eyes Tribe Group) from the Freie Ganztagsgrundschule SteinMalEins with their multi-faceted "Children for future" project. They received the main prize of 1,000 euros.
But there are even more winners: in addition to the main prize , two second and third places were awarded.
Second place with 500 euros each was shared by the integrative daycare center Kindervilla with its project "Ideas instead of waste" and the kindergarten Sprachkiste with its "On the trail of solar energy"project. Thirdplace with 250 euros each goes tothe ecologically oriented daycarecenter Kinderbude and class 3c (now class 4c) of the Südschule with their project "Plastic waste in our environment". Congratulations!
This year, theawardceremony could not take place as usual in spring on Jena's Environment Day, as this event was canceled as part of the "Your Day in Paradise" festivaldue to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the main prize was awarded directly to the winner on 21.09.2020.Mayor and Head of the Department for Urban Development and Environment Christian Gerlitz and Thomas Zaremba, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Jena, presented the prize to the primary school pupilsin front of the SteinMalEins all-day elementary school. The other prize winners will receive their prize money by post due to this year's exceptional situation.
